3900 Saturdays
The older
I get, the more I enjoy Saturday morning. Perhaps it's the quiet solitude
that comes with being the first to rise, or maybe it's the unbounded joy of
not having to be at work. Either way, the first few hours of a Saturday
morning are most enjoyable.
A few weeks ago,
I was shuffling toward the garage with a steaming cup of coffee in one hand
and the morning paper in the other. What began as a typical Saturday morning
turned into one of those lessons that life seems to hand you from time to
time. Let me tell you about it:

A
Dog's Purpose
(from a
6-year-old).
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish
Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their
little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for
a miracle. |

Worth the Effort
It was a stormy night many years ago when an elderly couple entered the hotel lobby on the outskirts of a mountain resort area and asked for a room.
"I'm very sorry," responded the night clerk. "We're completely full and so are all the other hotels in the area, but I can't imagine sending you out into the storm again. Why don't you stay in my room?" the young man offered with a smile. "It may not be a luxury suite, but it's clean. I need to finish my bookkeeping here in the office."
The distinguished-looking man and woman seemed uncomfortable, but they graciously accepted his offer.

Entertaining Angels
It
was fifty years ago, on a hot summer day, in the
deep south.
We
lived on a dirt road, on a sand lot. We were,
what was known as "dirt poor."
I
had been playing outside all morning in the
sand. Suddenly, I heard a sharp clanking sound
behind me and looking over my shoulder, my eyes
were drawn to a strange sight! |

Million Dollar Smile
Each year this organization of men came to the
Children's Home Society Orphanage.
All the boys and girls would get
two dollars each. The men would take us in
groups of five to downtown Jacksonville,
Florida, to do some Christmas shopping. |
